Thatch roofs are 5-10 degrees cooler than other forms of shade. | | How effective is the waterproofing for both types of thatch? | African cape reed is 99% waterproof, whereas the Balinese thatch is 100% waterproof due to the the density of many layers of thatch. | | What is the lifetime of thatch? | Depending on local climate condition as well as other adverse impact (trees, animals) the lifetime ranges between 6-15 years. | | Will the colour remain the same as new thatch? | No, as with any natural products the colours will change after the influence of water, sun etc. into a more wheathered natural appearance. | | How much can pests and bushfire be a risk? | When thatch material is imported into Australia a treatment is compulsary.
